Local Government (Municipals)

Mandated to be online, held to complex standards, and working within limited resources.

Local Government Challenges Faced

Local Government is required to use online channels for citizen communications, yet the standards they must uphold are unnecessarily complex. Vendors tell them what they want to hear, and limited budgets and expertise make it difficult to ensure inclusivity.

Under Title II of the ADA, municipalities face additional scrutiny, with even greater emphasis from April 2026. Understanding where you stand before that deadline is the practical starting point.

Digital sprawl across departments compounds the problem, but it is a symptom. The root cause is a gap between what is required and the resources available.

Current accessibility strategies are not delivering. Too often, institutions rely on external consultants whose expertise comes with extended timelines and escalating costs. Five years of data reveal a pattern of significant investment yielding minimal compliance, with typical rates around 7%.

"Rules require it, standards are complex, budgets are tight, and vendors are not held to account. That is the reality for most municipalities."

Title II Final Rule: Web & Mobile App Accessibility

In April 2024, the Department of Justice published a final rule under Title II of the ADA, requiring state and local government entities to make their websites and mobile applications accessible.

For local government and municipal organizations, this rule creates a direct compliance obligation across all public-facing digital services. Deadlines vary by population size, enforcement from April 2026.

Based on AAAtraq audit data, 2020-2025

Local government organizations have invested in digital accessibility over many years, yet independent audits show that most websites still fall short of WCAG 2.1 AA standards. Understanding where your municipality stands today is the starting point for meaningful progress.

An independent audit provides that clarity - identifying gaps, setting out practical next steps, and giving leadership a factual basis for decisions.

Pricing for Local Government

Local Government is required to use online channels for citizen communications, yet the standards they must uphold are unnecessarily complex. Vendors tell them what they want to hear, and limited budgets and expertise make it difficult to ensure inclusivity. Digital sprawl across departments compounds the problem, but it is a symptom, not the cause.

The platform gives you visibility across everything that is online, and accountability for what needs attention. Approved staff add their websites without bottlenecks or complexity. Pricing is per entity and covers all websites, so budget constraints do not dictate which citizens get an inclusive experience.

"PDF sprawl is one of the biggest hidden costs in Local Government accessibility. Automation addresses 95% of that cost."
